Interesting explanation. I have often thought of the meaning of “utterly wasted” as referring to the purpose of the earth being wasted, meaning we had this great plan for the earth and we did not accomplish the prime goal (renewed covenant – temple work/sealing families) and therefore the purpose of the earth and the heavenly work through the ages had been foiled or wasted. I was never certain if the physical destruction was really part of it (as I now see the Hebrew indicates). Thanks.
