From today’s Gospel Doctrine reading:
Alma 24:30 And thus we can plainly discern, that after a people have been once enlightened by the Spirit of God, and have had greatknowledge of things pertaining to righteousness, and then havefallen away into sin and transgression, they become more hardened, and thus their state becomes worse than though they had never known these things.
That verse could be a possible explanation for why some individuals “Leave the Church, but can’t leave it alone”. After falling away from the gospel, they spend the rest of their days attacking the ideas and individuals that once seemed cherished to them. The history of the church is littered with the attacks of apostate and excommunicated members. Recent events are just another manifestation of that same spirit.
